ABOUT


Rebekka Austmann Ingimundardóttir is born and raised in Iceland, She is a distinguished theatre maker with an impressive educational background.

She graduated from DAMU Prague in stage and costume design and honed her craft as a theatre maker at AHK Amsterdam's Object Theatre department later earning her directing degree from TAM Maastricht in the Netherlands. 

 

With decades of experience as a writer, director, and designer, Rebekka has contributed to various theatre groups across Iceland, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Greenland and the Netherlands.

 

In the film industry, she has excelled as a Production Designer, Set decorator, Art Director and Costume designer for film, television as well as live events. With her recent Production design featured at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. Award: Short Films Competition – Special Mention.

 

​​And as a Production Designer known for her work on the 2022 TV series Fractures. Her expertise in Art Direction and Set decoration was instrumental in the internationally acclaimed film "Godland," directed by Hlynur Pálmason, which received multiple awards that year.

 

Rebekka's contributions significantly enhance the art of filmmaking, showcasing her dedication and creativity in every project she undertakes.

 

 

MY STORY

Four decades ago, young at age Rebekka decided to dedicate art and designing her time and passion. Her driving force is diverse, from working on the little things that create the overall picture as well as the overall picture itself. Always guided by beauty and balance of perception with respect for nature, for the people involved and the participants.

Working internationally as a freelance theatre designer and maker where she has been writing, directing, designing and making her own theatre performances and theatrical installations since 1992. Creating site-specific , interavtive installations, immersive and endurance performances.

As wall as working in contemporary and  experimental theatre, directing and designing stage and costume with theatre groups like, Second Hand Women in Czech Republic, Silo theatre, Dogtrop and Hollandia in The Netherlands.  Decades of experience in designing both sets and costumes for theatre, television, advertising, music videos, and films. With theatres like: Icelandic National theatre and City Theatre Reykjavík and City theatre Akureyri, Room 408 and Komedia theatre in Iceland, Divadlo Komedie, Divadlo Archa and the Czech National Theatre in Prague. Designing along with it environments for various events, both large and small both in Iceland and central Europe. 

Rebekka designed the Icelandic pavilion at the 12th Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space in 2011 (PQ11).  After her participation she worked as one of their artistic consultant and artistic team member from 2012 until 2016. And in 2015 she curate for the Makers project. That year PQ was recognised by the EFFE Awards as one of the most trend-setting European festivals.
